Mount Everest 2003

Kristina Yondt, a teacher student student from the University of Uppsala, Sweden, has a unique chance to add invaluable experience to her coming degree as a music and Phys Ed teacher. At the Base Camp there's a Medical Rescue Station run by MD Luanne Freer. Dr Freer specializes in high altitude reactions to the human body and Kristina will assist in the research on how high stress and workload at high altitude affects the human mechanisms. Kristina is the only Scandinavian working in the team.

Just as the snow finally has let go of it’s grip on Scandinavia and the first spring flowers arrive, Kristina sets off for more snow as she leaves for her great adventure. Departure date is set for April 10th. A few days later she starts a ten- day walk carrying all her equipment in her backpack up to Base Camp. At the camp, the main task will be assisting the MD in examining and analyzing the climbers on the way up to the top and coming down. Kristina has also the mission of reporting to the national Swedish Radio about the expeditions trying to reach the top.

Everest has always been the dream for almost all explorers around the world. This year it is 50 years since Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the top of Mount Everest, and in remembrance of his incredible efforts, all the major broadcast teams will cover what is going on in Nepal, and follow all the expeditions achievements.

Kristina started her journey on foot from Lukla, 2700 meters, and finished on Base Camp, 5300 meters, on Mount Everest.
